I'm trying to tweak some of my blogging routines because I know some aspects of my schedule are about to change. Here's what I'm thinking...
Mondays I probably won't post anything anymore. The further we move along with the church, I'm realizing more and more the importance of disconnecting. Mondays are pretty much going to be reserved for rest and spending the day with Kaden :)
Tuesdays will basically remain the same. I'm going to give a challenge. This will be a time for me to encourage you to take your next step in your walk with God. I'll share something from God's Word and a book I'm reading. It will be in your face so to speak, but it'll be motivated by my desire to see you reach your potential in Christ!
Wednesdays will continue to be the recap day. I'll share a summary from our Sunday night gathering and encourage you to live out the principles we discussed.
Thursday will be hit or miss. I've I feel inspired, I may share something. If I don't, then I probably won't :)
Fridays I'll incorporate some small family details and just other random tidbits that I want to pass along.
With today being Friday, here's something to think about. How are you allowing God's love to overflow from your life? Within our launch team this is a question I ask regularly. We can't be The Overflow Church if God's love isn't overflowing. I've been praying over the last few weeks that God would show me the best way to regularly allow His love to overflow out of my life. Well, He's answered my prayer, so here's the plan.
1) It begins at home. Who cares what I do if I'm not first and foremost allowing God's love to overflow to Jennifer and Kaden? They need quality time with me, and I need to give them my best. What adjustments do you need to make to this happen in your home?
2) Each Tuesday and Thursday for about 2 hours, I'm volunteering at South-Doyle Middle. My goal is to love on the teachers by giving them my time. I used to teach school, so I know how hard it is to get all the little things done like grading papers and making copies. Hopefully, I'll also maybe get the chance to do some tutoring and impact some students as well.
3) Each Friday, probably from about 8:00am-10:00am, I'll be pumping gas and volunteering as a full-service guy at the BP on chapman hwy just across Henley Street Bridge. Why am I doing this? Isn't this a little weird? Well, maybe, but God has told us to be among the people, so this will be a way for me to meet new people. This was honestly something God put on my heart, so He must have people and divine appointments ready for me to embrace. I received a very warm and welcoming OK from the BP supervisor yesterday, so I can't wait to get started on this within the next 2 weeks.
4) I'll also be volunteering some with Jennifer's work to do whatever I can for their patients who live in the South Knox and Seymour area. As we've all probably experienced at some point, when a loved one is living their final days, nothing really matters other than spending time with that person. However, the yard still needs to be mowed and groceries still need to be bought, so maybe that's where I can help.
My passion all along has been to leave the "church office" and spend time with people. These opportunities will allow me to spend about 25% of my week building relationships and allowing God's love to overflow from my life. You may be thinking, "Well just wait until your church gets bigger, I'm sure you won't have time for that then." If I can't make time to give back and build relationships with people outside the church, then I've forgotten what God has called me to do. Nevertheless, I believe the key will be prioritizing my time and learning to say "NO" to certain things.
As for you, I fully realize your job may not allow you the same flexibility that I have, but then, you are probably around many more unchurched people than I am because of your job. So seize those opportunities! Find ways to let God's love overflow from your life to your co-workers. The opportunities are there, so just be willing to do what God has called each one of us to do... Live in The Overflow of His love!
