I was reading in the gospel of Mark this morning, and God reminded me of something special. Here are the specific verses I read...
He also said, "This is what the Kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain- first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come." Mark 3:26-29
I don't know about you, but there are times in my life when I wonder if I'm making a difference. I wonder if God is really using me, and whether or not I'll ever make an impact for Him. Then, I read a passage like this, and it puts everything into perspective.
First, this life is about God's Kingdom. If we are ultimately pursuing anything else, then we are building our own kingdoms and missing our calling.
Second, we are called to scatter, to scatter His love to others as it overflows from our lives. We ought to sling His love just as a farmer would sling the seed across a particular area. The more love (seed) that we spread the more people (crops) God will use us to reach.
Third, we won't always see the results, but we must know that God is constantly working all around us. He ultimately is the One who oversees the process of growth and change. He is working even when we are not awake!
Finally, lives will be changed! (the harvest will come). Don't lose heart. What you are doing does matter and will make an impact as long as His Kingdom is your objective!
