Longing to Experience God

I've discovered that I often want to experience God moving in a radical way through my life, but I never give Him the room or opportunity to do so. Perhaps I'm not the only person who struggles with this. If we are honest, most Christians would hopefully say they desire this same experience. However, if we are honest again, we can look around at the state of Christianity in America and realize we see very few God experiences taking place in our country.

As I was reading in Matthew 5:1-12 this morning, God reminded me that I'll experience His greatness at the expense of my comfortableness. If I want to have God move in my life, I must be willing to live in such a way that requires Him to move. Clearly there's a line here between being realistic and stupid, but the point is that we experience God the most when we realize how much we need Him. If you are like me, I can get so stuck in a routine that I often block those God moments from life.

In order to experience...

-the abundance of Heaven we must be emptied from worldly pursuits (Matthew 5:3)

-the comfort of our Heavenly Father we may have to experience heartache and pain (Matthew 5:4)

-true satisfaction we have to hunger and thirst for something greater than what we have (Matthew 5:6)

-the presence of God we must get rid of those things that are idols in our lives (Matthew 5:8)

-the blessings He has for us we must become radically consumed with living for His gain, not ours (Matthew 5:10-12)
