As we continue to consider the full implications of Philippians 1:6, we come to the part of the verse that says, "will perfect it" or "bring it to completion."
Kaden started walking when he was just a little over 10-months old. This was earlier than we expected, so we were excited, but it also meant we had to make some quick adjustments. Thankfully, he didn't learn to walk over night, so we had a little time to catch our breath. He truly learned to walk one step at a time, but still today, he doesn't walk perfectly. From time to time, he will lose his balance, go too fast, or just get tripped up.
There are a lot of similarities to Kaden learning to walk and God "perfecting" or "completing" His will within us. Let's be honest. We won't be fully perfect or complete and like Christ until "the day of Jesus Christ" as Paul says. So for now, God wants to teach us each day how to become like Christ, and like I said yesterday, while God definitely cares about our needs and concerns, He is first and foremost focused on using our lives to lead other people towards Christ.
In order for this to happen, we may have to go through some difficult times. We may fall on our face. Life may even hurt on occasion, but don't lose heart. Balance the difficult truths of this verse along with the overwhelming comfort and purpose that it brings as well.
So even if it feels like you aren't making progress, just know that you are not alone. I'm right there with you in this journey, a journey that often feels like an uphill climb. Even more important, I hope you know that each person who is truly pursuing God feels the strain and the challenge of being like Christ. Don't be worried or frustrated. Be encouraged because is doing something radical and amazing in your life! You only need to be concerned if you feel like things are easy and you have them figured out!
