Lessons Learned in 2010: #7

#7 Some moments only happen once, so you better not miss your window of opportunity.

Over the past year, I've realized that somethings in life aren't worth passing up. At the same time, if you are going to embrace these things, you'll most likely have to give something up in order to embrace them. This past year I was blessed with the opportunity to not only begin the process of planting a new church, but I was also able to watch Kaden grow and learn so many new things during his first year.

Honestly, these two opportunities have many similarities. They both started out very small and in need of so much, but with time, they have developed and are able to accomplish more. However, the church plant doesn't even come close to comparing to the joy of watching Kaden grow. I don't know if anything can compare to the feelings of joy when I saw him walk for the first time or when I hear him say "da da." I love it when Jennifer has to call me and put me on speakerphone so Kaden can hear me because he is walking around the house calling me name. He won't do this forever, and I have to make sure that I don't miss these special moments. Therefore, I have to make him a priority and allow other things to take a backseat.

At the same time, The Overflow will only have one beginning. God may never call me to plant another church, so I may have only had this one opportunity to do something unique for His glory. Seizing this opportunity required me to give up a comfortable and well-paying position on staff at a church. As a family, we had to make some major sacrifices, but we know this may have been our only opportunity to do this. If being obedient requires me to exercise faith and make sacrifices, then I'd rather do that than stay comfortable and disobey God.

-So what about you?
-What things are going on in your life that need your special attention and focus?
-What opportunities are approaching that may be your once in a lifetime chance to do something great?

Once you answer these questions, make the needed adjustments, set your priorities, and don't miss your window of opportunity!
