Do You Believe

We say we "believe" in a lot of things. Honestly, I've caught myself saying I believe certain things will happen, when in reality, I either "really" don't believe or I'm just not for sure as I may sound. I try not to do that with things that have great importance, but for example... Each year, I believe the Atlanta Braves can win the World Series, or at least that's what I say. However, at least for the past few years, I know that in reality the chances of that happening are slim. Now, this year, with a new manager and a new right-handed bat in the lineup (Dan Uggla), I believe the Braves have a real chance. Or do I? ha ha.

Seriously though, think about some of the things we claim to believe as followers of Christ...

-Jesus was fully God and fully man.

-Jesus is all I'll ever need.

-Jesus rose from the dead.

-Sin has no power over us when Jesus' power is unleashed and embraced.

-No matter the situation, God's comfort will always be greater than the pain or disappointment we are facing.

-There's more to who we are than this life alone.

-Nothing matters more to me than the love of God overflowing through my life.

-I'm alive because Jesus is alive.

All of these sayings are biblically true and powerful. They are beliefs that as followers of Christ we should firmly embrace and apply to our lives, but do we? Do you really believe these things? Is your belief in these statements and similar biblical truths actually impacting the way you act?

My prayer for myself is that I would get to the point in my life where my beliefs have a greater influence on my actions. One of the worst things we can do is say we believe something only to live in such a way that we're never impacted or transformed by our beliefs. When this becomes the norm, the only logical thing we can do is wonder if we actually believe what we say we believe in the first place.
