Sports teams have that clutch player they can go to when they need the big play. We have people in our families who would do anything to help anybody at anytime. People who make important plans typically have a plan B just in case plan A doesn't work out. The importance of the safety net cannot be overstated. We like knowing that if we fail a little, we still won't completely fail because someone will come in and save the day.
Unfortunately in our Christian circles, we tend to treat Jesus as a last resort instead of the only option. At least in my experience, there's been many times that I've done everything my way only to realize that it didn't work and that I should have listened to God from the beginning.
Put yourself in God's shoes for a minute. What if the people who claimed to love and follow you only turned to you when all else fails? Would you question and wonder how closely they really followed you? As a father, I want to be the one Kaden turns to. I want to fix His problems and make sure he's okay. I'm sure this "bail me out" mentality breaks the heart of God because He knows that He can care and provide for us better than anyone else.
When that temptation comes this week, I'd like to encourage you to draw upon His strength and power first. When you receive that unexpected news at some point in the future, cry out to God and trust upon Him from the beginning instead of waiting until you are at the end of your rope. I believe we often miss experiencing the full-sufficiency of God because we fail to give Him full control of our situations from the beginning. Make the decision to depend upon God at the beginning of your adversity, not just as your bailout plan when your efforts have left you broke and exhausted.
