Have you ever had those times in your life where something just didn't feel right? I'm not talking about when you ate some bad food the night before, but I mean when you feel like things are just a little out of place? I found myself in this position a few weeks ago, and I was determined to figure out what was off track. I was growing weary of the weekly grind, and in all honesty, I was becoming consumed with the feeling that my life was revolving around Sundays instead of my Savior!
As a result, a few weeks ago, I decided to take a break from blogging and many of the things I do and read on a weekly basis. I was desperate to hear from God for my own spiritual development and leadership, so I didn't want anything to block me from hearing the Spirit of God within my own life. During this time, I put myself back in a position to clearly hear from God. You see, God had never stopped speaking to me; I just had too many voices coming into my life that I wasn't able to hear him like I should.
Over these last few weeks, I've relearned the value and importance of hearing God's Word for my own life. For many of us, it's easier to read someone's blog or a new book by our favorite author than it is to study God's Word with the hope of being transformed. Why is this?... I think it's because God's Word alone is powerful and spiritual in nature. There's warfare that takes place when we read His Word...
-Each time we read the Bible, our flesh immediately starts to fight against who God is calling us to be.
-The devil does everything possible to distract and discourage us from applying and living out God's truths.
Yes, I get some great ideas from books and blogs, but none of them have ever truly changed the way I live and think. At least for me, no book or blog impacted my life like the Bible. By no means am I saying books and blogs are bad or have no value. I think they can be great resources for us, but we have to remember that God's Word brings true change in our lives. These other things fail when compared to THE SOURCE! It's like settling for a McDonald's hamburger when you could have a filet mignon. There's really no comparison.
You want new perspective? Then, go to the Source where all perspective originates! Learn to properly balance the voices that are speaking into your life. If you are hearing any voice more than you hear God's voice through His Word and prayer, then you may want to consider making some changes, but trust me, you won't be disappointed!
