Monday Reflections

As Kaden has learned to say in the last few days, the weekend is now "all gone." Well, he's not exactly saying "all gone," but he's saying "ah ga" and doing a cute little motion with his hands. He is soaking in everything and learning something new everyday. Anyway... the weekend is gone and so is last week, but it's a chance to praise God for the great things He's provided and taught us over the last few days.

Our core group gathering last night was amazing, and God just continues to connect people to our group. I shared with our group the exciting news that God opened the door for us to continue meeting on campus on Sunday nights throughout the fall until we are ready to transition to South-Doyle Middle in December. We originally planned to transition away from doing Sunday nights after Labor Day, but when God opens this type of opportunity, how can we not seize this chance? 20,000+ students will be on the campus this fall, and The Overflow is literally meeting on campus! We can't wait to see what God is going to do!

Two things God is really trying to teach me right now is "patience" and the "danger of assumptions." First, the patience thing. This has always been a weak point for me, but I can't even start to describe how much God is trying to develop patience within me through the building of The Overflow. Some things God has literally dropped out of the sky, but others He's making me wait them out. I've often wondered, "Why do we need patience?" Here's what God is showing me: Patience is evidence that we trust God has things under control! I want even try to elaborate on that, just think about it!

Secondly, I mentioned this on Friday, but we can't afford to assume anything. If you are a parent, don't assume your kids are making right choices. Talk with them and build that relationship. If you are a leader, don't just assume you've communicated your vision clearly. Keep repeating it and continue to find new ways to share it. If you are married, don't assume your spouse is okay with everything you are doing. Take time to have a "How am I doing/How am I treating you?" conversation. Assumptions will only get us in trouble with those closest to us and hinder our walk with God. (This is definitely going to be a teaching series at some point.)

Expect BIG things this week because the God of the universe is capable of doing BIGGER things than our BIGGEST imaginations!
