I don't know if you believe in what people call "destiny," but it's definitely interesting to think about. Take for example sports teams who win championships. Back when UT won the BCS title, which feels like forever ago, many people said UT was simply "destined" to win after Arkansas' QB literally laid the ball on the ground for us to recover. Sure enough, UT went on to win the title. Or what about when you meet the love of your life? When I look back at everything that happened in my life to lead me to Jennifer, I can definitely see how some people would say "We are destined to marry certain people."
Regardless of whether or not you are buying the whole "destiny" thing, here's something I do know: God is all about divine appointments. Just look back through the Bible....
-Moses and the burning bush
-Joshua and the commander of the Lord's army
-Jonah and the big fish
-Paul on the road to Damascus
I could go on and on. I didn't even mention all the people that Jesus met as He was living His life each day. Bottom line is this... You either believe God is working in all of our situations or He isn't. The more I try to live life with God's eyes, the more I see how He has divine opportunities for us to experience, and His plan for these appointments is that we would lead people towards Him with overflowing love!
Last night, Jennifer and I went out to eat at Olive Garden. As we were about to leave, one of the workers was walking through the restaurant asking if anyone had jumper cables. At first I didn't think anything about it, but then it hit me (or God hit me)... I have jumper cables! Then, it really hit me... Could this be a divine appointment? I waited to see if the lady found anyone else, and when she came back through, I stopped her and told her I could help.
Call me crazy, but what are the odds of this happening? Just as we are about to leave, someone just happens to need jumper cables, and I'm the only person in the whole restaurant who has any? I helped them jump off their car, talked with them for a minute, shared with them what God is doing my life and our church, and gave them an invite card to The Overflow.
Will I ever see this person again? I have no idea. Will they ever connect with The Overflow? Again, I have no idea, but that's not the point. I had an opportunity to overflow God's love towards someone, and I just tried to be faithful to do that. At the same time, I really believe that God is this interested in seeing people come to Him. I believe that He is constantly working in our lives and bringing opportunities our way; that's why I always say, every encounter is an opportunity to lead someone towards Christ with overflowing love!
