Where is the Love?

I want to begin by giving you a friendly reminder that Valentine's Day is just around corner (this coming Monday). I really like Valentine's Day because it's a great reminder that we shouldn't just tell people we love them, but we should actually put forth a little effort and demonstrate how much we care about them. This doesn't exactly mean we have to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars, but we should definitely put forth a little effort to do something.

At the same time, I think Valentine's Day should work something like Christmas and Easter for those of us who claim to be followers of Christ. We typically use Christmas and Easter to celebrate the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus, but honestly, these are things we should celebrate all year long. In regards to Valentine's Day, why not use Valentine's Day as a reminder to love people in the way that God has called us to love them? Yes, this is something we should do all throughout the year, but Valentine's Day is a great day to use as a reminder of this calling. In regards to The Overflow Church, we would say this day is a great reminder to lead people towards Christ with overflowing LOVE!

If I can be completely honest for a minute, I've really grown tired of Christians (mostly myself) constantly talking about loving others when in reality we rarely do it. Seriously, how can we say that loving people is a priority when the way we live and spend our money (both personally and within our churches) often communicates something completely different? I wonder how many people who are not a part of the church frequently ask, "Where is the love that you church people claim to have?"

So... perhaps you need to spark a love movement within your church. Don't wait on someone else to take action; just do it yourself and invite others to follow your lead. On the other hand, if your looking for a church that's committed to practically loving others, then I invite you to check out The Overflow Church, specifically this Sunday, and hear about our commitment to love the people in our lives!
