Why I'm Excited

As I'm writing this post, the beginning of our weekly worship experiences is about 48 hours away, and to put it mildly, I'm excited! I'm absolutely pumped about what God is birthing in Knoxville! I remember back in the fall of 2009 when we first started telling people about God's call upon us to start a new church, it felt like everything was so far in the future. We had no one else to help us and no funds to do anything. Now, here we are, over one-year later, and the weekend has arrived. God gets all the glory for each person that's connected to our launch team, the things that have already been accomplished, and every dollar that's been raised.

I wanted to take just a minute and share with you why I'm so excited about what's going on with The Overflow. Hopefully, this will put things in perspective. Excitement is pumping through my veins because...

  • God is going to use this church to change lives. Actually, we've already seen 4 people give their lives to Christ, and I believe this is just the beginning. We had a baptism at our December preview, and we'll have at least one, possibly two baptisms this Sunday!
  • I'm surrounded by a launch team that loves God, loves people, and is passionately committed to leading people towards Christ with overflowing love.
  • We're doing church in a way that promotes involvement, real and relevant experiences with God, and genuine opportunities for life-change.
  • We're starting a church that can actually accomplish its vision and relate with people who aren't yet followers of Christ.
  • I can let my emotions and passion for Christ overflow during our worship experience. We believe authentic, emotional responses that result from God's truth working in our lives is a powerful thing!
  • God loves the people of Knoxville more than I do. He is in control of what happens, and I know He desires to see people return to Him and praise His name. Therefore, I have no doubt that what God is starting, will not fail!
